Carol services

Enjoy attending carol services in Belmullet and Achill in December. Belmullet will host two services, one on Wednesday December 2 at 8pm in the Broadhaven Bay Hotel and the other on Thursday December 3 at 8pm in Ionad Deirbhile Heritage Centre, Eachléim, Belmullet.

The carol service in Achill will take place on Friday December 4 at 8pm in Halla Acla.

There will be special Christian music, readings, carols by the Gospel Singers, and a Christmas meditation by Damien Boyle. Admission is free and tea, coffee and mince pies will be served.

No Name graduation

Ballinrobe No Name Club is holding its graduation night in the Valkenburg on Thursday December 3 at 7.30pm.

All are welcome. Admission is free. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.

Book on showband star

Veteran Showband star Larry Cunningham and his biographer Tom Gilmore (Tuam Herald ) will be featured talking about their book Larry Cunningham - A Showband Legend on a segment of the RTE Radio 1 programme The Irish Abroad at 11pm on Sunday November 29.

Flower arranging in Ballina

The Ballina and Mayo North Garden and Flower Club is holding a Christmas flower arranging demonstration in the Merry Monk, Killala Road, Ballina, on Wednesday December 2 at 8pm sharp.

John from Avant Garde Flower Design in Westport will give the demonstration. There will be a door prize and raffle of arrangements on the night. Admission is €10.

Ballyhaunis news

Due to the huge response to the loyalty reward scheme organised by Ballyhaunis Chamber of Commerce, an extra bonus draw will take place on Monday November 30 — live on Mid West Radio's Paul Claffey show. So keep shopping in Ballyhaunis and keep collecting your tokens. All entries go back in the drum for the main draw which takes place on December 21.

Craft Fair

The hall is now fully booked for the massive Craft Fair on Sunday November 29. It is open from 11am to 8pm.

Straide meeting

A public meeting will take place in the Davitt Community Centre, Straide, this evening November 27 at 8.30pm. The purpose of the meeting is to establish a community development organisation for the Straide area. This is an opportunity to go and express your interests and get involved.

BMX open day

Western Lakes CC will hold round three of the BMX League on Sunday November 29 at 11am sharp at the cycling centre on the Kilmaine road out of Ballinrobe.

The league is open to all categories from under eights right through to adults. A variety of races and jump and skill competitions will take place during the day. An open session will be held where jumps and specific BMX skills can be practised. For more details contact Gerry on 087 258 0294. 

Unislim Castlebar

Fancy dress night in Westport

A fancy dress Bond night is being held in The Wyatt Hotel, Westport, on Saturday December 5 in aid of St Vincent de Paul Society and the Martin Keane's Christmas Fuel Appeal. Best dressed will win a prize, there will also be a fun quiz on the night and a disco after. Admission is €10 which can be paid on the door. Doors open at 9.30pm. Christmas Fair

Following from the success of last year’s Christmas Fair, this year’s Christmas Fair will take place on Saturday December 12 in Áras Inis Gluaire. Westport Civic Trust

The next illustrated talk will be Nimmo the Engineer by Professor Noel Wilkins of NUI Galway on Monday December 7 at 8pm in The Atlantic Coast Hotel. Also, if you are looking for a stocking filler the trust recommends that you buy Walking the Line which is beautifully written and illustrated about the Railway Line, which is available in bookshops in Westport for €7.99.

Festive day in Castlebar

The Castlebar Chamber of Commerce and its sub-committee Destination Castlebar will host a festive day on December 8 in Market Square.

At 2pm Santa will arrive at the Mall before he makes his way to Market Square where he will entertain the children while the adults will be able to stroll around and browse the local produce and craft markets while listening to carols from local singers. So go along and help celebrate this traditional shopping day in style as Castlebar showcases its finest to you!

Parent and baby group

A parent and baby group will be held from 11am to 12.30pm from Monday December 7 in the Le Chéile Family Resource Centre, Castlebar. Card game in St Gerald’s

St Gerald’s College, Castlebar, will hold its annual card game on Monday November 30 next at 8.30pm sharp in the De La Salle Hall, Castlebar. Admission is €10.

Monster Christmas table quiz

On December 10 at 8.30pm a table quiz will be hosted by the Castlebar Chamber of Commerce in The Welcome Inn.

Mayo Ladies presentation night

The Mayo Ladies County Board will host a presentation night on Saturday November 28 in Breaffy House Resort.

In addition to club players receiving awards, county teams will be presented with various medals they have won throughout the season.
