Westport Golf Club

The final major of the season gets under way in Westport Golf Club on Sunday. The annual winter league at Westport starts with 207 competitors coming under starter’s orders, (there is one place still to be filled in the gent’s draw. ) A nine hole team Stableford competition played in the months of November and January is just what the doctor ordered for the hardy souls down Carrowholly way.

This year the gents have being divided into two groups of 20 teams of four, with the top six in each group qualifying along with the next four best overall teams. The top 16 then change to a matchplay format, with the final played on or before St. Patrick’s Day. The ladies will run an overall team Stableford competition, first past the post, with 12 teams of four competing over nine holes, alternate front and back nine on the same dates as the gents.

The final reminder to all competitors, especially to the gents’ teams in group A is that because you will be joined with the ladies every Sunday please be exact in your booking, and always arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your allotted start-time. The full list of team captains, terms, and conditions for both the ladies and gents’ competitions are on the club website.

Members are reminded that the following dates have being set aside for the forthcoming AGMs. Ladies’ club Wednesday November 11 at 8pm; gents’ club Thursday November 12 at 8pm and the joint club Wednesday November 18 at 8pm.
