One year off the road for parking in disabled spot

A man who parked in a disabled bay in Castlebar was disqualified from driving for a year at Castlebar District Court this week.

Brian Moran, 63 Nephin Hall, Hopkins Road, Castlebar, parked his Citroen van on Hopkins Road, Castlebar, in a disabled spot outside the post office on Friday March 27 at 10.45am.

Garda John Flanagan issued a fixed charge penalty which was not paid. Moran told the court that he parked there to post two heavy parcels and that his then employer Casey’s garage was to pay the fine but this was overlooked.

The defendant, who has no previous convictions, was convicted and fined €500 and disqualified for one year by Judge Mary Devins. Recognisance was fixed.
