The Order of Malta Castlebar will host a fundraising dance in the Royal Theatre Castlebar on Friday October 16. Music on the night is being provided by Mike Denver with pre-show entertainment by Pat’s Country Roadshow. Compere on the night is Frank Forde. There will be a raffle on the night and also a competition for the best dancers with some great prizes up for grabs. Hotel vouchers have been sponsored by Glen View Hotel, Wicklow, and Hotel Rosslare. The voucher from Hotel Rosslare was sponsored by the Academy Hotel Dublin.

The Order of Malta Castlebar was started in 1975 when Malachy Powell, the then director of the Ambulance Corps, asked the late Capt John Cunningham to be officer in charge of the unit. Over the years the unit has grown from strength to strength with many competition wins and an increase in volunteer numbers. These volunteers provide a number of services at local events such as football matches, concerts, and street festivals. The latest addition to the unit is a first responder bike team. They have proven to be vital for these types of events.

The Order of Malta is currently in the process of setting up a community care project. This project is aimed at providing a service to the senior citizens of the Castlebar community. They intend to bring in a number of senior citizens once every two weeks for some light refreshments, a game of bingo, some advice, and talks on different relevant topics. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards this project. Doors open at 8pm. Dancing from 9pm to 1am. Tickets are €15 and are available from Donna Michelle on 085 7153900, Royal Theatre Box Office 094 90 23111, and any member of Castlebar Order of Malta. For any other information contact Donna Michelle on 085 7153900.
