Further period of remand for Castlebar murder suspect

Seamus Marrinan, Blackfort, Castlebar who was remanded at a special sitting of Castlebar District Court for the murder of his mother in the family home last week was further remanded in the custody of the Central Mental Hospital at Castlebar District Court this week.

Solicitor for Marranin, Mr Aidan Crowley told the court that his client had been examined last Friday in Castlerea prison and was then transferred to the Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum on Saturday.

He went on to say that a report was before the court from two different psychiatrists who said that at this juncture that he was in no fit state to plead. Judge Mary Devins remanded Marrinan in custody in the Central Mental Hospital until the sitting of Castlebar District Court on August 12, where she hoped there would be a further report from the Central Mental Hospital on to Marrinan’s status.
