Self portraits from Mayo schools

Just opened in the Linenhall Arts Centre foyer is an exhibition of 21 self-portraits by students from Scoil Raifteirí, Snugboro and Cornanool national schools. The exhibition was part of the international Belfast Children’s Festival in May 2009. This expressive and engaging show resulted from the Linenhall’s ongoing Visual Art Programme for Schools, which introduces primary school children to contemporary visual arts through a programme of gallery talks, discussions, and workshops. Inspired by Will O’Kane’s Linenhall show The Lure of Presentiment, on show earlier this year in the Linenhall Gallery, in all 288 paintings were created, of which the work shown is a selection. The young artists were facilitated by the Linenhall’s Arts access officer Orla Henihan and artists Denise Clarke and Marianne Heemskerk. The exhibition runs until Saturday August 29.

The Linenhall Gallery and foyer are open to the general public Monday-Friday from 10am to 5pm; Saturday from 11am to 5.30pm. Admission to exhibitions is free. Further details from the Linenhall. Tel: 094 9023733 Website: www.thelinenhall.com
