Connacht Gold launches Heart of Your Community campaign in Mayo

Connacht Gold has launched a summer campaign to encourage the local community in Connacht to get out and support local businesses and local employment.

Local people from across the province have volunteered to give voice to the message and will be highlighting the importance of investing in local produce, through a personalised series of advertisements.

Brian O’Reidy, a liquid milk supplier based in the west, began supplying Connacht Gold in 2003 and his father has been supplying milk to the co-op since 1973. “My job is hugely important to me and gives me a real sense of personal and business achievement,” said Brian.

“Being able to supply my neighbours and friends with a quality product that they know has been locally produced gives me a great sense of fulfilment and my business relationship with Connacht Gold, which is my only source of income, allows me to continue to do this. I am delighted to be supporting their campaign to highlight the role that local investment and local business plays in the community.”

Connacht Gold is one of the biggest employers in the west and as well as employing 564 people directly, their business supports 650 others, such as milk agents and maintenance workers, through indirect employment. As such, it invests €26.7 million to the local economy through salaries and wages alone and over €70 million in milk payments to suppliers.

“Locally based companies contribute a huge amount to local communities and the local economy. By enlisting those who benefit directly from this, we at Connacht Gold are hoping to highlight to consumers the important role that they play in supporting their families, neighbours and friends,” said Mary Fox, general manager of Connacht Gold’s food and retail division.

A number of fun events will be held across the province throughout the summer to celebrate the campaign and details will be communicated through local press.
