The victorious Derrywash NS side who won the All Ireland national schools soccer five-a-side last week.

Derrywash NS boys team won the All-Ireland EA Sports FAI Schools five-a-side (section A ), on Wednesday last in Leah Victoria Park Tullamore.

The squad consisting of Jarlath O’ Malley, Gary Walsh, Paul Walsh, David Gavin, Sam Hastings, James Mc Ginty, Conor Mc Donnell, and Conor Carter proved themselves worthy champions winning two of their games and drawing in one.

The first match was against Butlersbridge NS from Cavan and the result was 3-3. The three goals for Derrywash were scored by David Gavin, Gary Walsh, and Jarlath O’Malley.

Then Derrywash beat Ringaskiddy NS Cork 4-2. Derrywash goals were scored by Jarlath O’Malley (2 ) and Gary Walsh (2 ). The final match was against Moynalty NS from Meath and Derrywash beat them 4-0. Jarlath O’Malley scored a hat trick (3 ) in this game with Gary Walsh scoring the other goal.

Jarlath O’Malley played exceptionally well and was named player of the tournament”. Former great Irish international goalie Packie Bonner presented the prizes to the team. The players arrived back to great celebrations with a lap of honour led by Garda escort followed by bonfires and a reception at Derrywash NS with neighbours, friends, parents, pupils, and past pupils attending.
