Castlebar Cycling Club is pleased to announce that its hugely popular Explore Mayo Cycle Sportive will take place this Saturday, August 20, having previously been postponed due to inclement weather last June.

The cycle has been an integral part of Mayo’s active cycling scene for eight years and this year’s participants will not be disappointed, with new routes and adventures to be enjoyed along with the event’s renowned good atmosphere and fun.

Castlebar Cycling Club has nominated local charity, Mayo Cancer Support Association, as the beneficiary of this year’s Explore Mayo Cycle, saying: "For over two decades Mayo Cancer Support has been assisting people affected by cancer in Co Mayo, helping to ease their journey with a range of free therapies, supports and services. Over 2,000 people visit Mayo Cancer Support’s centres each year and that number continues to grow."

Manager, Trisha Greavy said: "We are absolutely delighted to be the nominated charity for this year's Explore Mayo Cycle Sportive. Events like this are vital to ensure the ongoing provision of local community-based cancer support services in our main centre Rock Rose House, Castlebar and in our outreach centres in Ballina and Achill and we are so grateful to the members of Castlebar Cycling Club and the general public for their continued support of our organisation."

Adrian Ormsby said Castlebar Cycling Club is delighted to support Mayo Cancer Support as part of its annual Explore Mayo Cycling Sportive event.

"Mayo Cancer Support carries out such an important role locally at a time when people’s lives have hit a very difficult juncture. As one of the largest cycling clubs in Mayo, many of our own club and family members have benefited from the help of Mayo Cancer Support and we are delighted and humbled to be in a position to give a little support back to such a wonderful organisation."

The 2022 Explore Mayo Cycle offers participants a choice of two routes – 107km or 50km – to suit all levels of fitness. Both commence at An Sportlann, McHale Park, Castlebar and track through some of the county’s most breath-taking scenery, with food stops along the way.
