Calling all amateur photographers! The Linenhall Arts Centre and Mayo Rollers, a branch of the Castlebar Skate Club, are holding a dynamic outdoor photography challenge on Market Square, Castlebar this Saturday, August 20 at 6pm.

Witness skilled skateboarders demonstrate the techniques mastered in controlling their boards through various high octane tricks. In this unique setting, audiences are invited to snap creatively; capturing the color, movement and community of the place, with prompts such as 'Air' or 'Style'. A selection of these photographs curated by the Mayo Rollers and the Linenhall will be displayed in The Linenhall print gallery in 2023.

This event runs in conjunction with the GUIDES visual arts exhibition and events programme at the Linenhall, at which artworks selected by Mayo Rollers from the Arts Council of Ireland’s collection are being displayed, alongside a video screening about the Mayo Rollers, in the Tourist Office.

GUIDES, by Curator-in-Residence at The Linenhall Arts Centre, Séamus Nolan was devised in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Arts Council Collection. Artworks of national significance have been selected to tell the stories of communities across Mayo, including that of the Mayo Rollers, advocates for all roller sports across the County.

Skateboarding is an inherently inclusive sport, with no rules to determine how, where or who can skate, it has a history of intercultural development and adaptation and it fosters creativity in all elements of its style, technique, visual culture and ethics.

Please note: the event cannot take place if it's raining. If attending, please check the Linenhall’s website www.thelinenhall.com or social media channels before traveling. GUIDES is proudly supported by the Arts Council of Ireland. #artGUIDES
