Kavanagh Group launches revamped Claremorris SuperValu store

€12 million investment over 24 months upgrading Mayo/Galway stores

Leading Irish retailer SuperValu has launched its new look, state-of-the-art store in Claremorris following a significant investment of €2 million.

It comes as the Kavanagh Group announces it has invested €12 million into their Galway and Mayo SuperValu stores over the past two years, resulting in state-of-the-art stores in Westport, Castlebar, Kiltimagh, Moycullen, Clifden and Claremorris.

Kavanagh’s SuperValu Claremorris currently employs 60 people and the store revamp will create 10 additional jobs in Claremorris. The new look SuperValu, launched on Thursday, June 23 and is set to offer an extended range of top-quality produce, including fresh pastries and breads from a new instore bakery, homemade kitchen meals cooked instore, as well as a premium Italian range of artisan products.

The state-of-the-art store has added an instore Post Office to better serve the needs of the local community, as well as a brand-new coffee shop. The revamp brings new and exclusive ranges to local shoppers from the likes of The Happy Pear to an extensive range of Taste of Local items sourced directly form the region. This includes produce from Achill Island Sea Salt, Hillcrest Bakery, Jack & Eddies sausages and rashers, Cabot’s of Westport, and Hanley’s Salads.

Supporting local is of key importance to the team in SuperValu Claremorris and customers will be able to try out products from local producers in the Taste of Local area in store.

The SuperValu Claremorris team is committed to sustainability and has gone to extensive lengths to be as environmentally conscious as possible in designing the new-look store. The revamp includes a full refit of all instore lighting to new LED spec, a complete replacement of all refrigeration, and the implementation of Digital SELs within the store’s innovative design. It is envisaged that these measures will lead to a reduction in energy consumption of up to 30 per cent across the premises.

SuperValu Claremorris is independently owned and has been at the heart of the local community in Claremorris for almost 30 years. The store is a longstanding sponsor of the local GAA Clubs and has long been a supporter of the local SuperValu TidyTowns group and their community initiatives. The Kavanagh Group employs over 1,000 people and owns ten SuperValu stores across Mayo, Galway and Donegal.
