There was a big turnout at Swinford Library and Cultural Centre for the Rainbow In A Box visual art installation which was installed for Cruinniú na nÓg 2022.

Over 200 young people attended the walk-through light experience over two days. The interactive art installation which took place in a steel shipping container proved a big hit with the young people who enjoyed the mesmerising light experience.

The installation created by Mayo visual artist Cathal Mc Carthy was commissioned by Creative Ireland Mayo and Mayo Co Council for Cruinniú na nÓg 2022, the national day of free creative events for children and young people.

The experience proved a big hit with young people who travelled with family members from Westport and Ballina to take part in the interactive installation.

On the day, over 100 students from National Schools Meelick, Cuilmore and Swinford were treated to a follow-up visual art workshop with artist Cathal McCarthy which took place in the beautifully renovated Swinford Community resource hall.

County Librarian Austin Vaughan said that it was a wonderful event for Swinford young people and it provided a unique opportunity for local people to take part in a creative event for Cruinniú na nÓg 2022.
