Henaghan highlights the electorate’s concerns

Outgoing Castlebar town councillor Brendan Henaghan has observed on the canvass that the “small things still count”.

On a local level he has found that road safety is a huge issue with people expressing concerns about speeding cars, having to walk on the main road, and the lack of footpaths on the Newport Road. Safety when exiting estates onto main roads is also an issue with people also frustrated with the lack of finished estates and a lack of ‘children at play’ signs.

“People are really annoyed, afraid for the future on many fronts, and feel betrayed by the Government. With rising unemployment, many are glad to just have a job,” added Cllr Henaghan. He said that while people are concerned with the state of the country, they still want delivery on local issues. In defence of the town council Cllr Henaghan said: “Sometimes as a town councillor the problem might be a county council issue.”

Cllr Henaghan said he has delivered on a few projects in his area and made representations on constituents’ behalf.
