The campaign for a Family and Community Resource Centre in Erris continues to go from strength to strength and on Tuesday, May 24, an online meeting took place between steering committee members of FRC for Erris and Mayo TDs - Rose Conway Walsh, Dara Calleary and Alan Dillon.

The steering committee added: "The strategic plan for an FRC for Erris is now complete and the committee is ready to bring it to the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth of Ireland – Roderic O’Gorman, and the CEO of Tusla – Bernard Gloster. The document is accompanied by compelling letters of support from over 20 local groups, schools and organisations, as well as a strong petition signed by over 1,600 people.

"All of the TDs highly praised the work that has gone into the ambitious proposal and committed to supporting a delegation from Erris to travel to Dublin to meet the Minister and present their proposal to him. Deputy Michael Ring sent his apologies – however, he said he is fully supportive of the campaign. It is hoped that the committee will have confirmation of a meeting in early June."

Leanne Barrett, Chairperson of the steering committee said: "The FRC for Erris campaign has garnered unanimous cross-party support. The TDs here in Mayo are very aware of the severe gaps in services and supports for local people. Our meeting was extremely positive and allowed us to highlight again why the FRC model – which is a combination of family support and community development – is the right one to meet the needs of the Erris community."
