The Ballina Community Clean Up group has been congratulated for winning a Pride of Place Award this week by the elected members of the Ballina Municipal District.

At this week's meeting of the District, Cathaoirleach, Cllr Annie May Reape, congratulated the group, saying that it was a great award and 'recognition for their hard work and dedication over the past three years'.

Cllr John O’Hara, said that it takes great “grit” to go out and do volunteer work of this nature. Cllr Michael Loftus added that it is not easy to win such an award and the achievement should be recognised.

Cllr Mark Duffy, who is a member of the group, said that it was a great award for the group and recognition of all the hard work they did. He added that it was a group that was set up to complement the great work that has been done over the years by the Tidy Towns group. He thanked all the volunteers, the council for their support and all the business groups in the town who have donated to the group over the years.
