Mayo Day returns live and in person this year, transforming the town of Castlebar into a hive of Mayo Day celebration with something for all the family.

This year one of the much-anticipated Mayo Day events, The Mayo Day Art Exhibition, awaits you in the ‘windows of Castlebar’ reflecting on the theme ‘People and Places of Mayo’.

From numerous submissions of painting, drawing, photography and sculpture, thirty-five works of art have been selected to reveal and demonstrate the diverse talent of artists living and working in Mayo today. The exhibition was curated by acclaimed artist and native of Mayo, Joanna Hopkins.

"Images and interpretations of the landscape and organic materials defined the selection and curatorial process for the exhibition – reflecting quietly on this place that people engaged with more over the last two years."

You can enjoy a tour of the art in windows on Main Street and Castle Street, leading you to The Mall where The Mayo Way will greet you. This is an interactive art sculpture installation. Artist Bryan Duffy has created it especially for the Mayo Day celebration. It will be located outside Áras an Contae and depicts imagery of people and places that symbolise the identity of Mayo, both past and present.

The Mayo Day Open and Invited Exhibition across various venues in Castlebar reflects on the theme ''People and Places of Mayo''.
