Candlelight Ball fundraising evening with a host of top names

The annual Western Care Candlelight Ball - a highly anticipated occasion every Valentine’s weekend - will be a virtual event once more this year, following on from the success of last year’s online event, which raised over €35,000 for children and adults with learning disabilities all over Mayo.

To mark the 22nd year of fundraising celebrations organised by the Castlebar Voluntary Branch of Western Care, a virtual night of entertainment with some of Ireland’s top artists and local talent will be streamed online on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 8-10pm.

Mary Kennedy, Stuart Moyles, Padraig O’Hora, Jimmy Buckley, Pamela Gilmartin, Pat Shortt, Tony Christie and Cathal Gavin will be joined by some more stars, with a final line-up to be announced shortly.

The event will be streamed live on the Western Care Facebook Page. Launching the event Cora Mulroy, Chairperson of the fundraising committee said: “Western Care Association is a Mayo charity deeply rooted in the community and it provides a wide range of services to children and adults with learning disabilities.

“Last year we raised over €35,000 with every penny directly benefitting and enhancing the quality of lives of the people that we supported through various projects. Once again, this year we are inviting the people of Mayo and beyond to support Western Care through this very special entertaining evening. The association’s fundraising efforts have been hampered greatly due to Covid restrictions and we are hoping the public will tune in to this amazing evening and donate what they can to Western Care Association. The event itself is free to watch, however, we are organising a fundraising raffle prior to and during the evening’s event with fantastic prizes. There will even be an early bird raffle for those people who buy their raffle tickets early. On the night our main prize will be a €1,000 cash prize along with some other great prizes.”

Cora continued: “The Committee of the Candlelight fundraising evening would like you to join us in a very special night of entertainment, fun, interviews, and an opportunity to win generous prizes, from the comfort of your own home, while supporting this essential Mayo Charity.”

Western Care is a voluntary organisation established in 1966 by parents and friends of children with a learning disability in County Mayo. Today, the association provides a wide range of services through a network of group homes, training centres and individualised services throughout the county and relies heavily on fundraising to support its services.

This Candlelight Evening will be live streamed on Western Care’s Facebook page on Saturday, 12 February from 8pm and promises two hours of high-quality virtual entertainment.
