Organise your Operation Transformation Walk for Sunday

Mayo Sports Partnership is issuing a community call out - to community groups and clubs in the County of Mayo interested in hosting their own Operation Transformation walk. The walks should take place on Sunday, January 16 at 11am and should be up to 5km in length and last no longer than an hour. It can be a loop walk / out-and-back walk or maybe your local club has a track/walking facility that can host the walk? They must be suitable for all abilities. There is then the chance to continue the walk on a weekly basis, possibly on a weekday evening (where lit facilities allow ) for the duration of the OT programme – six to eight weeks. Philosophy classes in Castlebar

Philosophy classes start in the Parish Centre, Upper Chapel St, on Thursday, January 20, for six weeks. Cost is €75 (or €15 per night ). Orla wins Ballyhaunis 50/50

Orla Phillips from Doctors Road, Ballyhaunis, was the latest winner of the Ballyhaunis GAA 50/50 draw. She won €380 from the draw, having bought the ticket though the club direct debit option. The next draw will take place on Sunday, January 16, in The Clock.

Mayo North Tourism membership

Mayo North Tourism has launched its 2022 membership drive, with businesses of all types from Ballina and the surrounding areas encouraged to contribute towards a marketing and promotion fund for North Mayo, as the local tourism industry looks towards recovery post Covid-19 in 2022. Membership, which goes towards marketing and promotion of the North Mayo and West Sligo area, is open to all types of businesses. To date, Mayo North Tourism has achieved significant media coverage for the region on national radio, print and TV, popular online sites and overseas publications. It holds regular industry networking events for the tourism and hospitality industry and has built up a strong digital presence including a comprehensive website outlining North Mayo’s tourism offering, and an average monthly reach of over 300,000 on social media. Rates begin at just €120 per year for smaller businesses, with monthly payment options available, and memberships taken out between now and December 31 remain valid until the end of 2022. Breaffy GAA Lotto

There was no winner of the Breaffy GAA Lotto draw which took place on January 11, the winning numbers were 16,19,24 and 28. The winner of the €50 lucky dip prizes were Noreen O'Shea, Cork and Moria Lynch, Straide. The jackpot for the next draw will be €17,000.

Balla CRD

Balla CRD continues to run Balla Bingo every Sunday night at 8pm and the prize fund is €10,000. Balla CRD is running a Photography Competition and taking entries until February, so get those cameras out. Balla CRD added: "In any weather or season we have such beautiful scenery here in Balla, €25 One4All voucher for the winner. "

Ballina Active Retirement Association

Would members please note that all meetings and events have been cancelled until further notice. The association was scheduled to return this week, with the annual AGM on January 20, but due to the present circumstances, and taking into consideration the safety and wellbeing of members, it has been decided to cancel all gatherings for the foreseeable future. The present committee will carry on in office to keep things moving along, and will keep all members informed as and when any news is forthcoming.

Safeguarding Level 1 course

Code of Ethics & Good Practice for Children’s Sport is a programme for coaches, volunteers, parents and committee members in sports clubs. The programme delivers a three-hour introductory workshop, which provides information on codes of conduct, bullying, recruitment, etc. as well as child protection guidelines. By following the principles, policy and practical guidelines contained in the Code, sports leaders are playing their part in providing a safe and enjoyable environment in which children can learn and thrive. This Safeguarding 1 course will take place online on January 18, 2022 from 7pm to 10pm. Please note the following: Cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance Participants must be over 18 years of age. Certificates of attendance are issued on completion of the course. Participants arriving late will not be accepted onto the course. Please be advised that workshops are subject to cancellation/postponement if sufficient numbers of attendees are not reached.
