Ryan calls for reinstatement of rail corridor into National Development Plan

The Cathaoirleach of the Roads and Transport Strategic Policy Committee (SPC ) of Mayo County Council has called for the Western Rail Corridor to be reinstated into the National Development Plan.

Speaking at a meeting of the SPC this week, Cllr Damien Ryan said that the omission of the Western Rail Corridor was a huge opportunity missed by the government and that the omission flies in the face of the government's own policies.

He said that in the context of the government's own transport strategies it was an opportunity that has been missed and that should be revised without delay. Cllr Ryan added that even subject to European funding being made available for it, he could not see why it was not included. He was backed up by Cllr Annie May Reape, who supported his call at the meeting.
