Castlebar Chamber launches new business website

Castlebar Chamber of Commerce launched its new website, castlebarchamber.com last week. The launch has been described as a milestone in the development and progression of the town.

Bernard Hughes, chamber president, said the new site is a positive spin-off from Castlebar winning the Rising Star category in the Bank of Ireland Enterprise Town Awards 2019.

He stated: "The message we want to send out is that this is a website that has been built for the whole town, the business community, in general, and the various support groups, clubs and organisations that make up Castlebar.

"We know as a strong retail town we have a lot of advantages and we want this site to help us build on those advantages and make it even better. The slogan we have chosen is 'Welcome to Castlebar. A Place to Prosper'.

"In order to work towards this goal, it is essential that local businesses, community groups, sports and local organisations work a little more closely. This platform can bring us together and showcase Castlebar and the vision we all share.

"The bigger picture is that it will help to feed the town into western development plans which influence the national development direction."

Mr Hughes said he is confident of the website being successful in portraying Castlebar as a place in which to visit, shop, work and live.

He thanked committee members John Mulroy, Anne Conlon, Caroline Gordon, Gerard Kelly, Wilson Bird, Anne King, Kenny O'Brien, John Caulfield, Ronan Byrne and Michael Gill for their help in rolling out the project.

Working from the chamber office in the town, Ronan Byrne will provide support, administration assistance and back up to all members. Ronan has a high level of computer experience from working in banking and customer support environments.

Mr Hughes also singled out the designer of the site, David Quinn saying "When we tendered for the position of web designer it was a prerequisite that we employ a local web designer.

"We are fortunate to have in our town a high calibre and experienced web designer in David Quinn and his company Avenir Design. They did a great job and I thank local photographer John Mee for supplying the images that appear on the site.”

Deputy Alan Dillon and Councillor Martin McLoughlin, Cathaoirleach, Castlebar Municipal District, also addressed the launch at Bridge St in the town and they both spoke in glowing terms of 'Castlebar's future with a great deal of new investment imminent'.
