Mayo volunteers thanked for their National Spring Clean efforts

An Taisce has extended a sincere thanks to all of the Mayo volunteers who gave freely of their time to organise so many fantastic clean-up events in Mayo throughout April as part of the annual National Spring Clean campaign.

Throughout the month, more than 495,000 volunteers organised a variety of events nationwide. Volunteers from Mayo who took part in this year’s campaign included community groups, primary and secondary schools, local scout troops, and residents’ associations.

Patricia Oliver, National Spring Clean chairperson, said: “The National Spring Clean campaign plays an important role in bringing communities together every year to make our country a cleaner and nicer place to live. We are now in the 11th year of the National Spring Clean campaign and it is so encouraging to see the numbers of volunteers taking part each year remaining so strong.”

The National Spring Clean campaign is organised by An Taisce and funded by the Department of the Environment, Heritage, and Local Government. It is sponsored by Coca-Cola Bottlers Ireland and the Wrigley Company. It is also supported by Repak which supplies colour coded refuse sacks for recycling the materials collected, and Killeen which sponsors the general waste sacks. The campaign is backed by all local authorities who co-ordinate activity in their communities.
