Ten brand-new stainless-steel dog litter bins have been installed on popular walking routes around Belmullet town, as part of an anti-dog-fouling campaign by Baile Slachtmhar Bhéal an Mhuirthead (Belmullet Tidy Towns ).

The campaign, supported by the Erris Chamber of Commerce, the Oweninny Community Benefit Fund, and Mayo County Council, also involves the distribution of free dog litter bag holders and a poster competition with local TY students, which are displayed in Murphy’s on Main Street.

Belmullet Tidy Towns stated: "Dog waste carries viruses and parasites which can cause intestinal illness and serious kidney disorders in humans, blindness in children, and it can also spread disease to other dogs. If you would like a dog litter bag holder contact Elaine on (097 ) 20977 if you need one."
