Ballina biodiversity plan goes on public display

The elected members of Ballina Municipal District have agreed that a new Biodiversity Plan for the town will be put on public display. The members were given a presentation on the plan by Deirdre Cunningham, heritage officer for Mayo County Council, at their April meeting.

Cathaoirleach of the district, Cllr Seamus Weir, said that he had an issue with the preservation of Ivy - saying that it damages trees and can be dangerous. A number of other councillors agreed with Cllr Weir’s assertion. It was agreed to put the plan on public display for consultation with a closing date for written submissions of May 21, with the plan hoped to be adopted by the end of June.
