Bealtaine drop in event
Exchange patterns, learn new techniques, bring along your knitting and join in. This is a drop in event that will take place on Friday May 22 from 11am to 1pm in the education room.
Féile na Tuaithe
On Saturday May 23 and Sunday May 24 why not drop into the museum for this event which is now firmly established as one of Ireland's most popular, free family events. Craft and artisan food stands, children’s activities, storytelling, music, community arts project, face painting, demonstrations and workshops. It’s a two-day celebration of country life and traditions taking place on Saturday and Sunday May 23 and 24. Féile na Tuaithe - Turlough Park is a natural extension of the museum’s purpose of bringing families together to enjoy quality time and learn about the traditions of bygone days.
On Tuesday May 26 this junior workshop for children under six, will let children learn about the different types of baskets in the museum’s handling collection and make a basket from clay with Tommy Casby. This event will take place from 4pm to 5pm.
Take a guided walk of the grounds of Turlough Park House with Garden Restoration Supervisor, Noreen Hennigan. This event will take place on Thursday May 28 from 2pm to 3.30pm.
On Sunday May 30 from 11am to 4pm there will be a drop in crochet event. Meet the group or join them for the day by bringing your own knitting, crochet, felting etc.. The event will take place from 11am to 4pm.
An exhibition of fabric craft made by eight women of different nationalities now living in Mayo. This exhibition consists of a stunning range of work, which is the result of a joint project undertaken by the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life and Mayo Inter-cultural Action group (MIA ), and facilitated by community artist Carmel Balfe.
