Closed construction sites must be secured during lockdown - Deere

A member of Mayo County Council has called on all construction site operators who have to close sites from this Friday evening due to new Covid restrictions, to ensure the sites are fully secured from a health safety aspect.

Castlebar based Fine Gael Councillor Ger Deere said: "Unfortunately it looks likes all non-essential construction sites will remain closed for a number of weeks and, given the fact schools will also be closed, if these sites are not properly secured off, it could lead to young people entering these sites unsupervised, which could lead to serious injuries or fatalities; and also to make sure that materials and equipment are well secured, if we were to experience stormy weather conditions."

Cllr Deere added: "During the first lockdown last March this was a serious issue and I am appealing to all involved on these sites to make them safe and to monitor them on a regular basis.

"If any member of the public has any concerns with any of these sites, please contact me on (087 ) 7724419 or the Health and Safety Authority on (1890 ) 289389."
