Mayo native scoops coveted place on Aurivo’s Scholarship Programme

Aurivo, the globally-focused agribusiness headquartered in the North West of Ireland, has awarded one of two places on its Gaffney and Mulleady Agriculture, Food & Nutrition Scholarship programme, to Mayo native, Jack Sweeney.

Jack Sweeney from Ballina, studied at Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Gortnor Abbey, before embarking on a Bachelor of Agri Science (Hons ) at University College Dublin (UCD ).

Having grown up in the countryside near a dairy farm that he loved to visit, Jack developed a keen interest in agriculture and farming. From a young age he continued to develop his understanding of agriculture, leading him to aspire for a career in agribusiness.

Now in its fourth year, Aurivo established and sponsors the programme in memory of Paddy Gaffney and Sean Mulleady, who died tragically in 2013. The competition was open to students from Aurivo’s catchment area who undertake a level seven or level eight third level degree course in agriculture, food or nutrition.

Two scholarships, each worth €2,500, are awarded as part of Aurivo’s programme to recognise and reward academic excellence and support young achievers who wish to develop careers in an agri-related profession.

Commenting on the announcement, Donal Tierney, CEO of Aurivo, said: "The Gaffney and Mulleady Agriculture, Food, and Nutrition Scholarship Programme was established to support enthusiastic students who are interested in agri-related professions.

"As the agri-industry is constantly evolving, it welcomes the young graduates who are entering the industry with the most advanced academic knowledge. I would like to congratulate Jack on his achievement and wish him all the best for his studies and career in the future."
