Kilmovee look to kick on in Connacht

Ladies Football: Connacht IFC Quarter Final

Kilmovee Shamrocks will make the trip to Kiltoom on Saturday afternoon looking to back up their win in the Mayo Intermediate Championship and book a place in the Connacht semi-final when they take on newly crowned Roscommon champions, St Brigid's.

The east Mayo girls claimed the Mayo championship a fortnight ago with a five point win over MacHale Rovers in MacHale Park, thanks to a 5-9 to 2-13 win.

Kilmovee Shamrocks set up that win with a four goal salvo in the opening 15 minutes - led by player of the game, Lisa Cafferky, who hit 3-3 over the hour. The inter-county star along with her sister, Sinead, were the top players for the Shamrocks, kicking 3-8 between them, with Shauna Golden also starring, chipping in with 2-1. They also had a big performance from their goalkeeper, Elaine Duffy, who pulled off a number of big saves in that win.

Tomorrow afternoon they will have to travel to the home of the Roscommon champions who claimed their county title after a 2-9 to 0-8 win over Boyle last weekend.

The St Brigid's girls also had a big start to thank for their victory, leading 0-6 to 0-1 after 15 minutes before eventually going in 1-6 to 0-2 in front at the break, with the goal coming from their midfielder, Kate Nolan, who finished up with a 1-8 to her name; their second goal came from centre half forward, Abby Curran, with their other score coming from half-forward, Clare Grehan.
