Upgrade works under way at Mayo University Hospital

Construction work to replace and upgrade the windows on three wards and to replace and upgrade toilets and showers on two wards in Mayo University Hospital has commenced this week.

Catherine Donohoe, Hospital General Manager said: "We would like to apologise to our patients, their families and our staff for the noise and disruption caused by the construction works.

"We are making every effort to minimise the impact on patients and we are moving patients from the areas where construction is underway to an acute ward in the Sacred Heart Hospital.

"However it is not possible to move all patients and those in wards near the construction are experiencing noise during the day. The works finish at 5pm every day and will not happen over weekends. The works will not always generate noise, but it will be sporadic through the project.

"These upgrade works have been a priority project for some time and will greatly improve the hospital environment for our patients. We would like to thank all patients, their families and staff for their understanding and cooperation at this time."
