Every area tells it's own story when it comes to an election - we took a look at where the votes went across the different areas that the county was broken up to and the tally results. 

Dillon tops in Castlebar - but Conway-Walsh and Ring finish in front of Chambers

Lisa Chambers poorer than expected results in Castlebar according to the tallies has put her in danger of losing her seat.

The sitting Fianna Fail TD was beaten in Castlebar by Alan Dillon (FG ), Rose Conway Walsh (SF ) and Michael Ring.

Dillon topped the poll in Castlebar according to the tallies with 3,145 (19.94 per cent ) number ones, he was followed by Conway Walsh on 3,093 (19.94 per cent ) first preference votes and then Ring on 2,927 (18.87 per cent ) - with Chambers coming in on 2,642 (17.03 per cent ) according to the tallies and The Green Party candidate Saoirse McHugh getting 1,079 number ones (6.96 per cent ).

Calleary cleans up in Ballina

In the Ballina area the two big name candidates proved the big vote getters along with Conway-Walsh, with Dara Calleary picking up 5,212 (40.12 ) and Michelle Mulherin (FG ) getting 3,176 (24.45 ), while Conway-Walsh got 2,619 (20.16 ) - the three taking 84.63 per cent of the vote between them in the Ballina boxes.

Ring romps it in Westport

In the Westport boxes it was no surprise that Michael Ring was the main vote getter taking almost 50 per cent of the votes with 4,449 number ones, Conway Walsh also took a big vote in the area finishing in second place there with 17.57 per cent of the vote getting 1,604 first preferences - while Lisa Chambers also put in a strong showing getting 1,088 in that area or 11.92 per cent.

Conway-Walsh takes Belmullet by storm

In her home turf of Belmullet Sinn Fein’s Rose Conway-Walsh romped home taking 44 per cent of the first preference votes getting 3,269 number ones, with Michael Ring her next nearest challenger getting 1,859 number ones for 25 per cent of the vote in the area. Both Dara Calleary and Lisa Chambers took around nine per cent of the vote each with 694 and 682 number ones respectively - while Saoirse McHugh from the Green Party got just under six per cent of the votes with 440 number ones beside her name.

Ring wraps up Claremorris

Micheal Ring’s pulling power in south Mayo shows no signs of dimming with the Westport based Fine Gael candidate taking 33 per cent of the votes in the boxes there with 3,376 number ones. His next nearest challenger in that area was Sinn Fein’s Rose Conway Walsh who got 1,603 to get 15 per cent of the vote while Lisa Chambers got 12.43 per cent with 1,271. After that trio came, Fianna Fail’s Dara Calleary with 860 votes for 8.41 followed Fine Gael’s Alan Dillon who took 846 number ones for 8.28 per cent and then The Green Party’s Saoirse McHugh who took 5.63 per cent of the vote with 576 number ones.

Sinn Fein ride high in Swinford

The Sinn Fein surge saw them take over a quarter of the votes in the Swinford area with Rose Conway-Walsh taking 2,199 number one votes for 25.76 of the total. Fianna Fail’s Dara Calleary took home just under 18 per cent of the votes with 1,525 number ones, followed by Michael Ring with 14.51 first preference and then Michelle Mulherin with 1,009 first preferences. There was just one vote splitting the difference between Lisa Chambers and Alan Dillon in the are with Chambers’ 556 vote seeing her just edge out Dillon.
