Sitting Fianna Fáil TD’s, party deputy leader Dara Calleary and Brexit spokesperson Lisa Chambers handed in their nomination papers for the upcoming general election today (Monday, January 20 ).

Deputy Calleary will be looking to be elected for a fourth time having first been elected to the Dáil in 2007 where he took ten per cent of the first preference vote. In 2011 despite his party suffering heavy defeats around the country Calleary retained his seat polling 8,577 first preference votes and again in 2016 he increased his number one votes again to 9,402 to retain his seat.

Deputy Chambers is looking to retain the seat she won four years ago when she was elected in the reduced four seat Mayo constituency. She took just under 13 per cent of the number one votes getting 8,231 first preferences.

Chambers had first contested the Dáil elections in 2007 for the party finishing in ninth place after getting 3,343 number ones. She then ran in the local elections in 2014 where she was elected in the Castlebar Municipal District before she ran again successfully in the general election two years later.
