County Council issue Storm Brendan update

Mayo County Council has this morning (Monday, January 13 ) confirmed that their flood emergency plan remains in place and will continue for the duration of this weather warning.

The local flood emergency plans are activated across all municipal district areas. The R313 Belmullet to Blacksod Regional road is closed since 5AM this morning with local diversions in place, due to tidal flooding. This road will remain closed until 10AM at which time the situation will be reviewed. Details of further proposed road closures and or diversions will be published as they are agreed.

The offices of Mayo County Council are open today as normal, Monday January 13t and Mayo County Council crews will be deployed to areas where assistance is needed, subject to the safety of our staff.

Head of Communications at Mayo County Council, Martina Hughes outlined, “We are urging the general public to be careful as they go about their daily routines. Should you need to travel, extreme care should be exercised mindful of the conditions.  Please be aware of the potential of fallen trees, branches, electricity wires, debris on the roads and walk-ways and flooding in certain areas.

"Coastal areas pose a very high risk currently from wind and high seas . Please avoid where possible

"We would like to assure the public that Mayo County Council will update you with further information as appropriate over the coming hours and would request the co-operation of the Public until such time as the storm has passed."

Over 550 customers without power in Ardnaree

The ESB are reporting that 574 customers are without power in the Ardnaree area this morning, they say they are working on repairing the supply to customers and hope to have it restored by 12.30pm.

Over 300 customers without power in Castlebar

.

Over 300 homes are without power in the Castlebar area this morning according to the ESB due to a fault in the Knockaphuta area - they say they expect to have the power restored by 1.45pm.
