Westport’s Eimear is Ireland’s Dental Hygienist of the Year

Eimear Staunton, from Rossduane, Kilmeena, Westport, has been named the KIN Dental Hygienist of the Year 2019.

The prestigious award is run under the auspices of the Irish Dental Hygienists’ Association and is sponsored by Mayo firm, Pamex Limited, a leading distributor of dental, ophthalmology and personal care products throughout Ireland.

Eimear has been working as resident dental hygienist in a Rathfarnham, Dublin 14, dental practice since 2017 where she has a particular interest in caring for nervous patients with dental phobias, with many generous in their praise of Eimear and her natural ability to put them at ease throughout their dental procedures.

Commenting, Tom Murphy, CEO of award sponsor Pamex, said: "It was a positive double whammy for us, when the totally independent judging panel chose a Mayo woman to win this important prize that is in turn sponsored by our Mayo based company.

"Eimear is a terrific role model for all who choose to follow a career as a dental hygienist. She has worked abroad but decided to come home and retrain as a dental hygienist, and now has secured the top honour in her profession.

"She graduated in 2017 as a dental hygienist from UCC Dental School and Hospital and whilst there she was awarded two major awards, one for clinical excellence and the second for academic excellence. As a Mayo resident I am hugely proud of her and her achievements."
