Nine Mayo communities to share €840k under Town and Village Renewal Scheme

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, yesterday announced that nine rural towns and villages in Mayo are set to benefit from nearly €840K in funding under his Department’s Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

The Town and Village Renewal Scheme focuses on projects which can help to enhance rural towns and villages. Announcing the funding, Minister Ring said: "This is fantastic news for the nine towns and villages in Mayo whose applications were successful. I look forward to these projects being brought to fruition and to the benefits being felt by local communities.

"In the last two years, 25 towns and villages in Mayo were supported under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme and the impact on the local communities is significant. For example, the Pope Francis Plaza in Knock village, which was funded under the 2017 scheme is a marvellous addition to the village of Knock and was opened in time for the Pontiff’s 2018 visit.

"Among the successful projects which I am announcing are fine examples of initiatives which will support enterprise and job creation. I want to thank Mayo County Council for their efforts and co-operation in engaging with local communities to identify these projects and I urge them to ensure that that this funding is put to good use without delay.”
