New events added to Mayo Street Food Festival summer food series

Several new events have been added to the Mayo Street Food Festival fundraising food series in Castlebar, including a foraging walk and picnic on the Greenway with Connacht Chef of the Year Barry Ralph.

On Sunday, June 30, you can learn to forage with the House of Plates head chef. The morning forage will take place in Turlough – meeting at Turlough House gate at 11.30am.

The family-friendly fundraiser will involve a slow-paced walk over a distance of approximately one-and-a-half miles. It includes a foraging booklet with recipes, and will end with a foraging-themed picnic. Tickets priced at €25 for adults are available now from House of Plates on (094 ) 9250742; children go free. Advance booking is essential as places are limited.

That same weekend, on Friday, June 28, The Brewery Cup is stepping up to the plate to host a special four-course evening dinner, with all proceeds going towards the September food festival. Tickets are available from the venue, priced at €25. Again, spaces are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Next up is an amuse-bouche! Adding some light relief to the food series is a night of comedy bingo in aid of the festival, hosted by comedians Steve Bennett and Steven Sharpe, upstairs at Bridge Street on Friday, July 12 at 8.30pm. Tickets are €7. With Bridge Lane the new home of the September 8th Mayo Street Food Festival, expect a great night of craic, balls and surprises!

The food series got off to a super start in June with a delicious Mayo Ingredients food demo at Rua first up to the pass, followed by a fully booked out wine event at the Dining Room, and a limited edition festival burger in Mulroy’s to celebrate National Burger Day.

More events are yet to be announced as part of the food series calendar – watch this space and see Mayo Street Food Festival’s Facebook page or website for more details. Your support is very much appreciated.
