Summer competitions in full swing

Golf

There was some good scroing in the club and inter-club competitions last weekend around Mayo.

Balla

John Tuohy was the winner of the gents' stableford competition last weekend with a score of 36pts, he finished just in front of Jimmy Sheridan in second place thanks to his back nine play, John Healy came home in third place. The ladies' competition was won by Mary B Prendergast with a score of 37pts, second place went to Carmel Henry one point behind her, and third place was claimed by Mary B O'Donnell. The pre-Presidents Day scramble competition was won by the trio of PJ Brett, Carmel Henry and Marian Gormley with a round of 33. Second place went to Treasa Melvin, Paraic Cuffe and Mary B O'Donnell, with third spot going to Pat Dillon, Kitty O'Connor and Derek Reilly.

Ballina

Carmel Kilgannon was the winner of the ladies' 18-hole competition with a score of 37pts, Sarah Gallagher was the winner of the nine-hole competition with a score of 16pts, with Yvonne Oldham finishing in second place on 15pts, and the 30+ category competition was won by Catherine McEveney with a score of 13pts. The gents' competition was won by Neil Sheridan with a score of 41pts, the category of winners were Andrew Murphy, Eamon Doherty, Owen Hannon and Damien McLoughlin.

Ballinrobe

The gents' singles stableford competition was won by Nathan Hession with a score of 43pts, Pat Halligan finished in second place two points back and the gross prize was won by Earnan Naughton. The qualifier winners were Robert Moran, Daragh Hession. The gents's stroke competition was won by John Gilrane with a score of 69nett, Mike Fahy finished in second place and Ray D'Arcy won the gross prize with the category wins going to Pat Malone, Ger Fahy and Kieran Hughes. The front nine prize was won by David Fahy and the back nine by Jonathan Burke. The ladies' competition was won by Mary Daly with a score of 72nett, second place went to Phyllis Lee with the rest of the top five Marian Scully, Helen Healy, Connie Ryan with the front nine win going to Bernie Divilly and the back nine to Sheila Molloy.

Castlebar

The ladies' competition in Castlebar was won by Ina Hennelly with round of 69, second place went to Mary Rose McNulty with a round of 72, third place went to Mary Casey Cox and fourth place to Karen Moylette. The midweek stableford was won by Margaret Naughton with a score of 35pts, second place went to Mary McKeon one point behind, Marie Rowley finished in third place and Marian Martyn was the fourth placed finisher. The club nine hole qualifying competition was won by Sinead Egan, with Mary Costello finishing in second place and Amy Healy in third place.

Mulranny

The club's seniors team are through to a second Fred Perry Trophy in four years and will meet Castlerea on Wednesday week. A clean sweep at home gave Mulranny a comfortable win against Swinford. The home pairings of Christy McDonnell/Padraic Rice; Owen Vincent/Pat Gallagher and Tony McDonnell/Murt Moylan made full use of local knowledge, and were comfortable in the blustery conditions. In Swinford Mick McDonnell and Brian Ainsworth were two up when called ashore while Eugene McCormack and Eamon Mongan were battling back after a shaky start. Paddy McNea came out on top with four up in the Vs Par competition at the weekend. New member, Eoghain O’Reilly finished second on three up with Vinny Gannon, again in the prizes, also with three up.

Swinford

The ladies' competition was won by Margaret Reynolds with a score of 37pts, second place went to Annie McNeela six points behind and third place was claimed by Catherine Loftus. The gents' competition was won by Sean O'Hara with a score of 42pts, he just edged out Gary McNeela into second place with Eugene Maloney finishing in third place.
