Council to hold public information evenings on Draft Climate Adoption Strategy

Mayo County Council will be holding a series of information evenings for the public in relation to the Draft Climate Adoption Strategy.

The strategy was launched on Wednesday in Castlebar, by the local authorities climate action officer Laura Dixon and director of services John Condon.

Speaking at the launch - Condon said: "We are looking for public to make submissions to improve the draft plan we have put together, ultimately it will be adopted by the council in September and that will comply with the national deadline set for us. A lot of work has gone into preparing the document by the team - but it is a project everybody has to contribute to. Nobody acting on their own can solve this problem if we all act together we may succeed. We have 1,100 km of coastline in this county, rising sea levels could be a threat to this county, we have our rivers mountains and lakes and there are challenges we have to face and the plan will help to deal with all of these things.

The information evenings will take place on Thursday, June 6 in the Cúram Centre, Dalton Street, Claremorris and in the Ballina Family Resource Centre, Abbey Street, Ballina from 7pm to 8pm; in Aras Inis Gluaire, Church Street, Belmullet on Tuesday, June 11 from 7pm to 9pm; in the Regional Training Centre, The Mall, Castlebar on Wednesday, June 12 from 7pm to 8pm and in Westport Town Hall on Thursday, June 13 from 7pm to 8pm.
