This Easter Castlebar will be host to both the best of football and entertainment

In what promises to be an exciting weekend of football in Castlebar, the Royal Theatre has live entertainment all wrapped up.

Celtic rock band More Power to Your Elbow will perform a one off gig on Saturday April 11 in the Royal Theatre. This band, for the very few who don’t know, have travelled all over the world playing their energetic and lively set of Celtic rock music. In August this year for the first time they will be wooing the crowds in Sweden. It is an exciting time for the band who in the summer are due to release their new album. Recording is almost finished and it promises to be even bigger and better than their hugely successful Live at the Arena album.

Listen to their great song about the GAA and you will certainly have your feet tapping and hands clapping. The tunes on the album have incredible drive and are synonymous with the modern beat that permeates all forms and conventions aligned to this type of music. Castlebar will be a huge night, with the band particularly popular with many of the Tyrone fans heading down to the match the following day. The music appeals to young and shall we say “older”. It has continually reinvented new audiences and Castlebar hopefully will be witness to this on April 11. The band have just returned from a successful tour of Holland over the St Patrick’s weekend and are really looking forward to their trip out west. The huge resurgence of interest in the band was reflected when more than 2,000 people turned up at their last gig in Co Derry.

Doors will open for the show at 11.30pm, they will play until 2am on what promises to be a great night. Also taking place in the hotel over Easter weekend is the Saturday night county club dance with Thomas McGuire and Fiona Ennis, and on Sunday April 12 the eighties are back with the Here and Now 2009 tour of pop sensations Kim Wilde, Toyah Wilcox, ABC, Heaven 17, Altered Images, and Kid Creole.
