Colin Murphy brings his Bald Ambition tour to Westport

Top Irish stand-up Colin Murphy is making a break for the will-it-be-a-hard-or-soft-border to bring his new tour, which recently sold-out Northern Ireland venues as he would say "down south."

The Bald Ambition Tour includes a date at Westport Town Hall on Friday September 28. Tickets are on sale now; visit www.thatcolinmurphy.com/dates for tour listings and bookings.

The new tour – Murphy’s first in eight years – comes as the Downpatrick funnyman turns 50 and celebrates 25 years as a stand-up comic.

Well-known to TV audiences for his role as resident panellist on The Blame Game, BBC Northern Ireland’s topical news and current affairs panel show, expect Murphy to bring hilarity to the humdrum in The Bald Ambition Tour, which covers such diverse topics as Conor McGregor, 21st century sex, being pitied by the homeless and Brexit, amongst others. The Guardian has described him as “distinguishably good… delivering pin-sharp observations in the form of shared confidences.”

Murphy said ahead of the tour: "The best thing about doing something for long enough, is finding out you were right all along. With this new tour, it’s honestly the first time in a long time I’ve been really, really looking forward to getting out on the road."

Murphy began his stand-up career in 1993 as a compere at Queen's University Belfast’s Queens Comedy Club Night, and subsequently began touring venues across the world from Montreal to Melbourne, and Beijing to Ballybofey. He has performed at all the top comedy festivals, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Melbourne Comedy Festival, Just for Laughs and, closer to home, the Cat Laughs comedy festival. He is a regular host of the comedy show in The Empire Bar, Belfast.

Murphy’s long list of TV credits include five years as the writer and presenter of the highly regarded and critically acclaimed Blizzard of Odd, followed by a six-year stint on the hugely successful The Panel for RTE.
