Mayo Sports Partnership will host a follow-on course from the basic awareness course for nominated children’s officers from sporting groups on Saturday April 4 in Mayo General Hospital from 10am to 4.30pm.

All attendees are required to have completed the basic awareness course and to be directly involved with the underage structures of clubs. Closing date for applications are today Friday March 27. Contact 094 904 7025.

 

Grants

The Board of the Mayo Sports Partnership is to shortly announce details of its upcoming Special Participation Grant Scheme for 2009.

This scheme invites clubs, organisations, and community groups to submit participation proposals which would target increasing participation amongst target groups such as children, disadvantaged, women, Travelling community, older people, people with disabilities, and ethnic minorities. A funding workshop on the scheme will take place on Thursday April 2 at 8pm in the Mayo Education Centre at 8pm. To book your place contact 094 904 7025.

Walk in Kilmore

The official opening of the Bord Fáilte approved walk in the parish of Kilmore will be opened by Erris Man of the Year, Pat Gallagher, on Saturday April 4 at 2pm with Fr Michael Harrison blessing the walk on the day.

The walk is coastal, graded easy, 5km in distance, and should take no longer than two hours. There are breathtaking views out over the Atlantic, most definitely a must for walking enthusiasts. Watersports club

Club Farraige Iorrais (Erris Sea Club ) is looking for volunteers to help with powerboating and windsurfing activities. If you have a national powerboat or Level 2 powerboat certificate or higher, or a Level 2/3 windsurfing qualification or higher, and would like to volunteer for the club e-mail [email protected] or call Amy on 086 242 2567.

GAA scholarship winners

Six lucky Mayo GAA underage club members will be heading to the Mayo Gaeltacht during the Easter holidays following the draw for the 2009 Mayo GAA Gaeltacht scholarship grants. They are: Tara Duffy, Crossboyne, Claremorris; Michaela Doran, Bangor Erris National School; Dabhóg de Freine, Tuirin Hurling Club; Scott Kilker, Attycunnane, Belmullet; Deaglan Ó Gabháin CLG Acla; and Vickí Ní Daibhis, CLG Chaileán an Bharraigh.

Each scholarship is worth €300 to attend Coláiste Lír in the Eachléim Gaeltacht of north Mayo during the Easter holidays.

Castlebar Tidy Towns

Spring is in the air and the national spring clean is well under way. In our adopt an area project many residents’ associations have undertaken to carry out clean ups in their area. Monday evenings are the traditional clean up between 7pm and 8pm. Well done to St Patrick’s National School on their achievement of another Green Flag and to the residents of Foxfield for their initiative. Together we can make it happen. Run for the RNLI in Achill

The Achill Half-Marathon will take place this year on Saturday July 4. Enjoy April Fool’s

Enjoy an April Fool’s Day with a difference at the National Museum of Ireland, Country Life, Turlough, where from 3.30pm to 4.30pm there will be a fact or fiction tour of the museum. If you are free this weekend, drop into Connaught Textile Crafters-Creative Embroidery on Saturday March 28 from 11am to 4pm or on the following day from 2.30pm to 3.30pm, there will be a tinsmith demonstration.
