US choir to perform at the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life

There is a real treat in store for fans of choral music at 2.30pm on Thursday, May 24, at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar.

A leading university choir from the USA is to give a free performance in the unique setting of the exhibition galleries as part of the Mayo International Choral Festival.

The University of Southern Indiana (USI ) Chamber Choir was the overall winner at the Mayo International Choral Festival in 2016. They have performed throughout the United States and have toured in Poland, Germany, Canada and Ireland. In 2017, the choir participated in the international choral festival, Universitas Cantat in Poznan, Poland, and they have previously appeared in New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall.

Their repertory ranges from medieval carols and madrigals to classical, romantic and contemporary settings of liturgical and secular choral music.

The performance is one of a number of choral events taking place throughout the county between May 23 and 27 for the seventh Mayo International Choral Festival. This year, the festival has attracted its largest ever number of choral voices with 1,613 registered singers set to take part.

The USI Chamber Choir performance is at 2.30pm on Thursday, May 24, on Level A of the main exhibition galleries at the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life. Admission is free. No booking required.
