The Irish Cancer Society, in partnership with Centra, are running the Get the Girls ‘Round fundraising campaign in aid of the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Cancer programme.
Claire McDonald from Kilkenny has already hosted a successful Get the Girls ‘Round party this year.
“My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2008 and was treated with radium all throughout the first half of 2009,” she said.
“I immediately saw this campaign as a way to help her and others like her. I thought that having the party with my sister Paula would be a nice gesture to show we cared.
“I wanted to give something back so that my mother and others like her would continue to experience the same level of care and support.”
The Irish Cancer Society are now appealing to women in Kilkenny to host a similar such event, whether it’s for a night in with your mates to watch X-Factor with the mandatory nibbles, or a delicious home-cooked meal with your gal pals or a party in your local GAA Club.
To register for Get the Girls ‘Round, simply log onto www.facebook.com/getthegirlsround and then invite your female friends, workmates or family to get together for a great cause. Friends are asked to donate the equivalent of what they would spend on a night out.
All funds raised from the campaign go towards providing information, advice and support services for women with breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in Ireland and women have one in 10 chance of developing breast cancer during their lifetime.A
