Galway man named Carer of the Year

A dedicated Galway-based husband and father was named on Saturday as Carer of the Year at the National Carer ceremony.

Noel Timothy from Newcastle in the city, cares for his wife Evelyn, who has dementia, as well as his two sons. 

For many years, Noel has been a full time carer for his wife, Evelyn, his son James who is 15 and also helps with the care for his son Steven who was injured following a serious motorcycle accident. 

At the ceremony on Saturday night, it was stated that Noel is an inspiration and carries out his caring duties with total love and dedication to his family.

Meanwhile, an 11-year-old Tipperary girl Year award.

Mary Condon O'Connor won the award for her role in caring for her younger sister Aine, who is autistic.
