Galway crash victim named

The 26-year-old man who died in a single vehicle collision on Saturday has been named locally as Paul Higgins of Ruanmore, Ardrahan.

Gardai in Kinvara are continuing to investigate the accident which occurred shortly after midnight when the van Mr Higgins was driving crashed into a ditch on the Adrahan to Kinvara Road. The young man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A carpenter by trade, Mr Higgins had returned home a few months ago from working in Australia and was due to return there next weekend.

He was the 240th person to be killed on Irish roads this year.
