Galwegians and Glaswegians, the Scots and the Irish, the connections go back as far as early mediaeval times, but the Scots-Irish link will be pursued artistically with an event to take place in both cities.
The event is Artisit? and it will be held in various locations in Galway and Glasgow from Thursday October 2 to Saturday 18.
The shows will be curated with work from emerging talent on the international art scene and beyond. It will involve more than 20 artists, photographers, trendsetters, designers, musicians, DJs, fashion/art collaboratives, and thinkers.
The event is billed as a creative playground for artistic ideas, connectivity, and provocation; bridging the gap between art education and practice. It will provide a unique opportunity to see the most current developments in the world of contemporary art.
The Galway events will see Kevin Gaffney at G126; work by Will Robinson, Oliver Rafferty, Curver Thoroddsen, Sabina MacMahon at No 2 Henry Street; while in No 8 Bowling Green, there will be an exhibition by Dee McDonnell and Zulaikha Engelbrecht.
At the McDonagh Building, Peter Caul, Ditte Knus, Silja Leifsdottir, Sarah Ingersoll, Michael Levitt, Geir Helgi Birgisson, Soo Jung Choi, Wenjei Cheng, Kyusung Jo, James Stevens, Eoin Williams, and Junpei Murao will be exhibiting.
Events will also take place in Nimmo’s, De Burgo’s, and Tigh Neachtain’s.
Galway will be represented in Glasgow by Mirikal Whip, the brilliant guitar/electronic duo of Annemarie Deacy and Aaron Coyne and by Elektrishe TV, a Galway based collective of local and continental musicians, playing electronic power pop.
