Karl Spain to host new weekly comedy night

Joe Rooney, Totally Wired, and Sarah O’Gorman to kick off new comedy venture at the Róisín Dubh

KARL SPAIN, the comedy host and MC par excellence, will host a new weekly comedy night at the Róisín Dubh, starting in April with a show featuring Joe Rooney, Totally Wired, and Sarah O’Gorman.

The Tuesday Comedy KARLnival, which will showcase leading Irish comedians, as well as the best emerging talent, launches on Tuesday April 3 at 8.30pm, with a headline set from Joe Rooney, best known for his roles in Fr Ted and Kilnaskully. Armed with the best quiff in the business, one which says ‘I’m here to party’, Rooney does improv, musical comedy, stand-up, and straight acting. Hot Press has called him "occasionally laconic, at times infectiously manic, and always riveting".

Totally Wired have been called "Ireland’s answer to Flight of the Conchords" by The Irish Times. They call themselves "Ireland's oldest and least successful boyband". Their interactive mix of comedy and music has been seen at Electric Picnic, Indiependence, The Cat Laughs, Body and Soul, and the Vodafone Comedy Carnival Galway.

Originally from Kilkenny but a favourite on the Galway comedy scene, Sarah O'Gorman from NUIG Comedy Soc has already performed alongside the likes of Fred Cooke, Katherine Lynch, Al Foran and Phill Jupitus.

Tickets are €5 from OMG Shop Street, Roisin Dubh, and www.roisindubh.net or €7 on the door. Future guests at the Tuesday Comedy KARLnival will include Barry Murphy (Aprés Match ), Ian Coppinger (Dublin Comedy Improv ), and Johnny Candon (Ricky Gervais tour support/The Sketch Show ).
