The songs and stories of The Dubliners in Ballinasloe

Tribute night to folk legends comes to Gullanes Hotel

WILD HAIR, wilder beards; songs about sex, drink, and politics; and a much needed injection of a rebellious, anarchic spirit into Irish folk music of the 1960s - The Dubliners truly were trailblazers.

The band featured such iconic figures as Ronnie Drew, Luke Kelly, and Barney McKenna, and delivered the definitive renditions of 'Seven Drunken Nights', 'The Irish Rover', 'Scorn Not His Simplicity', 'The Wild Rover', and 'The Black Velvet Band'.

The Dubliners, and their music, will be celebrated in a new show, All For Me Grog - The Songs and Story of The Dubliners, which comes to Gullanes Hotel, Ballinasloe tomorrow at 9pm.

The show is presented by The Liberties, who replicate the original Dubliners lineup of Ronnie Drew, Luke Kelly, Barney McKenna, Ciaron Burke, and John Sheehan. Ronnie's role is taken up by Dubliner Wayne Wilder; Donegal banjo plays James Gallagher is Luke Kelly; fiddler Bardan Johnson takes on the role on John Sheahan; whistle player Jeremy Jenkinson is Ciaron Burke; while Clare banjo player John Hill is Barney McKenny.

Tickets will be available on the door and from the hotel reception (090 - 9642220, [email protected] ).
