Galway Ladies open double header

Galway Ladies open Sunday's football double-header at Pearse Stadium when they host their Mayo counterparts at 12 noon.

Mayo, who opened their campaign with a 0-11 to 0-7 win over Westmeath, arrive in Galway just a point behind Galway after suffering a 2-14 to 2-6 loss to Kerry.

Galway, currently third in the Lidl NFL division 1, behind leaders Cork and Dublin, will feel they left a little behind them in Donegal when they were forced to settle for a draw in round two.

Galway were a point up going into injury time, but Yvonne Bonner scored from a free in the dying minutes for Donegal.

The home side had led at half-time, 1-8 to 0-8 with Tracey Leonard keeping Galway in touch with seven frees, and a superb point Emma Reaney.

Galway, however, controlled the second half, and reduced the deficit through Sarah Conneally and a Deirdre Brennan free.

Mairead Seoighe, with five points, ensured Galway were on track to follow up their win over Monaghan, but could not stop Donegal's last-gasp effort.
