Hair removal doesn’t have to be the pits

Zap, zap, zap - I’m really beginning to just love that sound, seriously. It is the blissful dulcet tones of hair being removed from my pits and I’m just loving it.

Yes ladies, for about a month now I’ve enjoyed baby smooth armpits, well almost. On January 24 I made my way out to the Laserderm Clinic at Cois Chlair Shopping Centre in Claregalway, met with Lisa Callaghan, and underwent my very first laser hair removal treatment. My initial reaction? Well, it wasn’t that bad. There were few stings here and there but nothing compared to the bikini wax torture.

Just to give you a little bit of the science behind it all, the Ellipse Intense Pulsed Light System uses light, which is absorbed by the pigment in the individual hairs. The pigment converts the light to heat, a process which disables the ability of the hair follicle to continue growing.

In my first post-laser week there was a little bit of hair by the third day but after a quick little shave there was none, and I mean not one little hair, for the weeks that followed. I was so amazed that I thought I’d never have to go back for another treatment again, like I was some sort of miracle but that was not the case. Although there may not be any hair showing the follicles still need a good seeing to.

So, I went to my second appointment on February 28, just within the recommended four week wait, and the treatment was so much quicker (about 10 to 15 minutes ) as there was no need for an introduction. A hand-held laser crystal thingy was used again but this time the power went up slightly and so did the sting, but again it wasn’t that bad. There was a wee bit of redness but not much.

Two weeks after and a few flimsy looking hairs did emerge, however, I must stress that these were very few and far between. Another little shave and there has been nothing so far and going by my experience I don’t expect any to appear. At this stage I can now spread out the treatments a little more so I’m well on my way to being hair free.
