Moycullen's late effort not enough

Maigh Cuilinn were forced to bow out of the All-Ireland ladies' club intermediate semi-final, losing 0-18 to 2-11, despite an heroic late effort.

Kinsale, beaten junior finalists last year, looked to be cruising to the final when leading 0-18 to 1-9 in the first minute of injury time, but Moycullen refused to yield, producing a late rally to leave just a point between the sides.

First a shot from Áine Ní Dhonnchadha flew over the bar before Molly Ní Eidhín scored her fifth point, and then Ní Dhonnchadha's long-range effort found the top corner. But with extra-time looming, Kinsale's defence stood firm, preventing any hopes of an equaliser.

Kinsale took charge in the first half, scoring five points for a 0-7 to 0-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. While centre-forward Jenny Murphy was a driving force for Kinsale and Georgia Gould impressed at wing-back, Maigh Cuilinn got themselves back in contention when Evvie Ní Leamhná netted, following good work from Catherine Ní Chonnaire.

Katie Ní Artúir then pointed to level, but Kinsale finished the half strongly, though they needed goalkeeper Aisling Judge to save well from Molly Ní Eidhín.

Although Nic Dhonnchadha had a free for Maigh Cuilinn early in the second half, Kinsale were always able to respond, helped when Maigh Cuilinn were reduced to 14 due to a yellow card.

Ní Eidhín reduced the gap, but after Ní Artúir's shot flew across the Kinsale goal, Kinsale looked clear. Unfortunately Maigh Cuilinn late rally fell just short.

No luck for Tuam-Cortoon

Tuam-Cortoon lost the junior semi-final by 3-12 to 1-7 to Aghada from Cork at Tuam Stadium.

Having won a first county and provincial title this year, Aghada struck three first-half goals to seal a comfortable passage.

The home side took the lead courtesy of a Clodagh Lyons free before Aghada levelled and hit the first of their goals after eight minutes.

Points by Rebecca Mongan and Caitlin Maloney closed the gap to a point, but the Cork side hit another rich spell to take a 3-5 to 0-5 lead at the break, with Caoimhe Moran getting the closing score of the half for Tuam-Cortoon.

Aoife O'Rourke score got Tuam-Cortoon off the mark quickly on the resumption, but they struggled to make inroads against a tight Aghada defence. A late Ciara Moloney goal gave the home side some reason for good cheer, while a Caoimhe Moran point completed their second half tally.
