Rising SON to play Monroe's Live

Following debut album Found Myself Lost, singer-songwriter heads out on tour

HER MOTHER did not want her "hanging around the streets", so "if you’re spending all your time indoors, what else is a music-mad kid gonna do with her time except learn to play an instrument?”

So says SON (aka singer-songwriter Susan O’Neill ) described by Hotpress as "prodigiously-gifted" - the magazine chose her as the female singer most 'Hot for 2017' in its January issue - and who plays Galway next week.

She first came to attention as a backing singer with Propeller Palms and King Kong Company, but really made a mark with the release of her album, Found Myself Lost. SON cites her influences as KT Tunstall, Stevie Nicks, Norah Jones, Simon and Garfunkel, and Irish folk music. Olaf Tyaransen called the album a "bluesy debut...showcasing her truly phenomenal husky voice, often reminiscent of Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin or a ballsier Adele".

“Found Myself Lost is...really the story of a female going through adolescence and reaching adulthood,” the artist explains, “and my acceptance of where I’m going in life, or what I’m doing or who I am. Because, I have to admit, I have a lot of different egos to deal with."

SON plays Monroe's Live on Friday November 17 at 9pm. Tickets are €10 via www.monroes.ie
